His favorite activity these days has to be 'catching' and throwing a soft baseball. Whenever he sees the ball lying around he plays catch with himself or anyone around that's willing to risk getting a fast ball to the face. Nick and I are, of course, fostering his talent in the hopes that he'll take care of us when he's making the big bucks :)<br />

Half a year has gone by since he entered our lives (as an outside baby, he’s been apart of our lives much longer though) and I just cannot believe it! I will be planning his first birthday soon- this does not seem real. But on the other hand, he seems like he’s always been apart of our lives <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-lNMkrQ3AqVs/UA9t700JKKI/AAAAAAAABqo/70IHP0MntkE/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800">It’s crazy town to think where we were 1 year ago- we weren’t sure that we would be in this place, with our happy, healthy ‘outside’ baby in our arms, and we are so grateful that this is where we ended up. We couldn’t imagine life without our little man! <p align="center">Jacob is always smiling, always happy, and just loves everyone! Even when he’s sick or doesn’t feel great, he’ll give a big ‘ol smile! Today, on his 6 month birthday no less, I had to leave work early to pick him up cause poor boy had a fever of 102* and as I walked in his pink cheeks lit up and he gave me the sweetest smile! I could just make him smile all day long. We just love this boy to pieces and are so blessed he’s a part of our family. <p align="center"><strong>Height, Weight, and Dome-piece Circumference:</strong> <p align="center">25.5 inches long, 56% (Stats from 4 month check, which was in June, his 6 month check isn’t until beginning of August) <p align="center">15 lbs 10 oz (at the beginning of July) <p align="center">42 centimeters, 38% (from 4 month check) <p align="center"><strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong> <p align="center">He can still wear 0-3 month size onsies and pants, but we are slowly changing everything to 3-6 month size, which seem to fit just fine with room to grow. The pants are a little big in the waist but fit great in length. Sleepers are 6-9 months. <p align="center">Size 2 diapers. <p align="center"><strong>Feeding:</strong> <p align="center">He eats 6 oz every 3 hours during the day. <em>Most</em> nights not eating and actually sleeping all the way through! We’ve really amped up the solids this month and he eats 2-3 cubes with a little oatmeal mixed in (I made my own baby food and froze them in ice cube trays) every night and loves it! He hasn’t met a food he doesn’t like yet. I was worried when we started since he gagged on everything but now he takes it all with an open mouth. His favorites seem to be avocado with bananas or sweet potatoes with apples. <p align="center"><strong>Sleeping:</strong> <p align="center">Pretty much the same as last month, but the last 1/2 of the month he’s slept totally through the night… (knock on wood!!) We put him to bed between 7-7:30 pm and he <em>usually </em>sleeps all night until 6:30 am or so. Sometimes he’ll wake up in the 5 o’clock hour and chat to himself for 20 minutes or so and then go back to sleep until we wake him at 6:40 to get ready for daycare. However, he does have bad nights and when he does he usually has a couple in a row where he wants to eat twice per night. Which doesn’t sound bad, but when you’re used to sleeping through the night for a good streak then all of a sudden he wakes up multiple times per night, its hard. As for naps, he sleeps every 2 hours for 1-3 hours per nap. <p align="center"><strong>Milestones, Fun Stuff, and Factoids about our Boy:</strong> <p align="center"><strong></strong> <p align="center">*Proved to be an awesome traveler! We drove to Oregon to visit family at Great Grandpa’s house and we heard not much more than a peep from him the whole time. We were so proud! <p align="center">*Although he sat unassisted by himself at 5 months, he’s still working on perfecting it and a lot of times will fall backwards. <p align="center">*Last month he was rolling everywhere but this month he’s rolling as a mode of transportation, he sees something he wants and off he rolls to get it! <p align="center">*SUPER grabby, constantly reaching for anything that could possible be within arms length. <p align="center">*Has said mama a couple times after I’ve said it to him!! This was so exciting for me and I’m constantly asking him to say mama now! <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-lNMkrQ3AqVs/UA9t700JKKI/AAAAAAAABqo/70IHP0MntkE/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> <p align="center">*Finds his binky in his crib at night and puts it in his mouth, then will go back to sleep on his own. <p align="center">*Ate new foods this month- sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, carrots, pears and green beans and loved them all. <p align="center">*Still loves daycare and the teachers that watch him all day. The teachers seem to be really bonding with him too, which is wonderful to see! <p align="center">*Got his first ear infection this month and had to be on antibiotics <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-sadsmile" alt="Sad smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-4uxmZ5kVXo8/UA9t8caROjI/AAAAAAAABqw/A5G4Tm7dMoo/wlEmoticon-sadsmile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> but never complained about his ears, we took him in to the Dr cause he had congestion that wouldn’t go away and he ended up with an infection. He really is an angel baby. <p align="center">*I swear he waved bye-bye for the first time today! Leaving daycare the teacher was waving to him and he picked his arm up off my shoulder and went up and down with it. Not sure if it was on purpose but it sure looked like it! Big Boy!! <p align="center"> Now onto our monthly photo shoot… I’m surprised I got any good pictures considering baby boy was at daycare half the day and came home with a fever, but he sill had a few smiles for his mama <img style="border-bottom-style: none; (Well, maybe that’s because I did, but really he is growing too fast!) We truly cannot believe he is already 5 months old! I feel like this month he is doing so much more. I’m not sure if it’s just the natural progression of this age, if he’s advanced for his age, or if he’s learning stuff from watching other babies at daycare but man he is really picking up lots of new talents this month. Nick and I are always saying- I don’t remember Hannah doing this or doing that at his age! (To be fair to Hannah, she has always been advanced, so I’m sure us thinking that has more to do with Hannah was his age 5 years ago so maybe our recalling her milestones isn’t the best.) <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lh7lzQAJgSE/T-kp_qF6WdI/AAAAAAAABjI/3HIBVTu4bVI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> <p align="center"> This month brought a lot of changes! We are starting to introduce solids, but very slowly since he isn’t taking to it like we thought he would. He gets really excited about grabbing the spoon and bringing it to his mouth but then gives a big shudder anytime the food goes down his throat! <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lh7lzQAJgSE/T-kp_qF6WdI/AAAAAAAABjI/3HIBVTu4bVI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> He’s tried avocado and sweet potato. We will need to start giving him something to eat everyday here soon so hopefully he gets used to it quickly. Another change this month was mommy going back to work and baby starting daycare! I was super nervous about this for the obvious reasons- missing the kids and worrying about how Jacob would do in daycare, but I’ve got to say I’m pleasantly surprised. I’m very comfortable taking him to the daycare we chose and Jacob is so happy and has adjusted really well- like he’s been going there since day 1!</p> <p align="center">Shots this month were not fun, <em>but </em>he stopped crying as soon as I scooped him up and not another peep about it! He got a little fever, but nothing a little tylenol didn’t help. He passed his physical with flying colors and we were told to keep doing everything we are doing- which is the best thing a parent can be told. <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lh7lzQAJgSE/T-kp_qF6WdI/AAAAAAAABjI/3HIBVTu4bVI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> <p align="center">We look forward to another month with our little guy and all the milestones it will bring! We can’t get enough of his squishy cheeks and silly faces!! </p> <p align="center"><strong></strong> <p align="center"><strong>Height, Weight, and Dome-piece Circumference:</strong> <p align="center">25.5 inches long, 56% (Stats from 4 month check, which was in June) <p align="center">14 lbs 2 oz , 28% <p align="center">42 centimeters, 38% <p align="center"><strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong> <p align="center">He still wears size 0-3 month clothing. Some of his t-shirts are 6 month size and they aren’t too big on him, but his pants must be 0-3 or they would be a little to big in the waist however the length is starting to be too short. Can still fit very comfortably in 0-3 month onsies. Sleepers are 6-9 month, because he is so long. <p align="center">Size 1 diapers until he ran out of the last box right before turning 5 months, so now size 2. <p align="center"><strong>Feeding:</strong> <p align="center">He eats 6 oz every 3 hours during the day. <em>Most</em> nights not eating and actually sleeping all the way through (but he does have his moments)! <p align="center"><strong>Sleeping:</strong> <p align="center">Jacob’s sleeping is still pretty good. We put him to bed between 7-7:30 pm and he <em>usually </em>sleeps all night until 6:30 am or so. However, he does have bad nights and when he does he usually has a couple in a row where he wants to eat twice per night. Which doesn’t sound bad, but when you’re used to sleeping through the night for a good streak then all of a sudden he wakes up multiple times per night, its hard. We also realized when we try to take him off his prevacid he sleeps <strong>terrible, </strong>so we will not be messing around with his medication until he is about a year or so. In fact, we got his dose upped to 1 tab per day and his reflux seems to be under control. As for naps, he sleeps every 2 hours for 1-3 hours per nap. <p align="center"><strong>Milestones, Fun Stuff, and Factoids about our Boy:</strong> <p align="center"><strong></strong> <p align="center">*Rolling ALL over the house- getting stuck under the coffee table, against the wall, ect. <p align="center">*On his 5th month birthday he sat up completely unassisted! We’ve been working on this and then today he just decided to master it and was sitting forever all on his own! (Hannah also sat unassisted on THE day she turned 5 months old- crazy!) <p align="center">*Can put his binky in his mouth all by himself! We can hand it to him and he’ll put it in or if he sees it in his crib he’ll reach out for it and put it in. Crazy! We feel like that seems advanced for his age. <p align="center">*Grabs at EVERYTHING! He sees something he wants or thinks he might want and he reaches out and grabs for it. <p align="center">*Starting the inch worm scooting across the room crawl. He gets up on his toes with his butt in the air and pushed forward, he doesn’t get very far but he’s working on it. <p align="center">*Loving his jumperoo and he actually jumps in it! He doesn’t like it for long periods of time, but he’ll jump and grab his toys for a little bit at least. <p align="center">*Always sleeps on his tummy. <p align="center">*Still loves his play mat and uses it every single day. <p align="center">*Ate avocado and sweet potato <p align="center">*Loves daycare and the teachers that watch him all day! He’s so happy when I drop him off and goes to the ladies with no problem. I call a couple times per day to check on him and he’s always doing good. And he’s a happy, smiley guy when I pick him up. Besides taking the daycare’s word on how he’s doing I can also judge his day by his mood when I drop off/pick up and it’s always a happy time! Which makes me feel SO much better about going back to work. <p align="center">*Can no longer use his low profile swing we have in our bathroom- just yesterday he was buckled in it and I look over at him and he had lunged forward for the bar that it’s attached to and was half hanging out and holding himself up with his hand on the ground <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lh7lzQAJgSE/T-kp_qF6WdI/AAAAAAAABjI/3HIBVTu4bVI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> It was hilarious, especially cause he didn’t even make a peep, just looked around for someone to help him! We’ve decided to donate this swing to the NICU at Sutter. When Jacob was in the NICU he used a low profile swing pretty much the whole time cause he had to be upright after every feeding so we want to be able to help another baby that will need to do the same. I called today to make sure they take used swings and they do, his is in near perfect condition so I feel good about donating it to a place that actually NEEDS it. As sad as it is to be getting rid of baby things already, it makes me so happy that a lot more babies will be able to get the use out of it. <p align="center"> <p align="center">Picture overload!! I didn’t get many with his big dimply smile but he did chatter and give me his silly faces <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lh7lzQAJgSE/T-kp_qF6WdI/AAAAAAAABjI/3HIBVTu4bVI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> <p align="center"> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-phAjihkuHyk/T-kp_9SduXI/AAAAAAAABjQ/Fbo59zVKj70/s1600-h/IMG_2466%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; We are still alive and well, just super busy living life! I totally skipped out on little man’s 4 month post so I’ll do a quick one now, I’m only 1 month late, whatever. <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-McEc20hpCkw/T-fbnkrKFgI/AAAAAAAABgM/ipEJ6LAsRQI/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> <p align="center">Jacob is such a happy, sweet baby! Since we’ve figured out his issues (lactose intolerance and keeping him on his medication for acid reflux) he is just the best little guy and has such a great disposition! His personality is really showing through these days. He loves to smile and laugh. This month his mouth found his toes and doesn’t leave them alone. Also, realized he has a tongue and likes to stick it out and rub it against his gums. He had his first vacation this month, we went to the beach house with the Jackson family and beside sleeping terrible the first 2 nights, he was a happy baby and had a good time. Although, it was crazy windy there so his experience at the actual beach was him sleeping in his tightly covered car seat- and even though the blanket was locked down around his seat there still managed to be sand all over him! But he didn’t mind. <p align="center">Jacob is growing up so fast and we are enjoying every minute of our sweet baby boy! He is such a joy and we can’t imagine him not being a part of our family. <p align="center"><strong>Height, Weight, and Dome-piece Circumference:</strong> <p align="center">24.75 inches long 96 % (Will update after 4 month check, which isn’t until June, but I know this is wrong, I re-measured him at home and he was just barely 24 inches which is still long but not quite what we thought) <p align="center">13 lbs 8 oz <p align="center">40 cm head circ 49 % (Again, will update after check-up next month) <p align="center"> <p align="center"><strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong> <p align="center">He still wears size 0-3 month clothing. Some of his t-shirts are 6 month size and they aren’t too big on him, but his pants must be 0-3 or they would be way to big in the waist. Can still fit very comfortably in 0-3 month onsies. Sleepers are 3-6 month, because he is so long. <p align="center">Size 1 diapers still, although I’ve thought about putting him in size 2 overnights since he’s sleeping better at night and don’t want a wet bed to be waking him up. <p align="center"><strong>Feeding:</strong> <p align="center">He eats 5-6 oz every 3 hours during the day. Most nights not eating and actually sleeping all the way through! <p align="center"><strong>Milestones, Fun Stuff, and Factoids about our Boy:</strong> <p align="center"><strong></strong> <p align="center">*Laughing all the time. <p align="center">*Rolling everywhere, all the time! <p align="center">*Found his voice- likes to make a loud squeal type noise. <p align="center">*Sleeps on tummy or side. <p align="center">*Drooling, chewing on hands even more. <p align="center"> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-lxQwWLl0mZo/T-fbnzKYFOI/AAAAAAAABgU/CTbxHQji3GI/s1600-h/IMG_2006%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; It’s just crazy that Jacob has been here with us, as an outside baby, for 3 whole months! He continues to be such a joy to us. He’s such a happy, content baby. Now that we’ve figured out that he’s lactose intolerant and since the formula change that happened last month, he’s the happy baby we always knew he should be. He no longer grunts and kicks his legs from gassy pain. Now after feedings he’s ready to talk, smile, and play with his toys. He’s growing way too fast and I want him to slow down just a bit, although I am very proud at how advanced he is <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-LUBZXFftzAo/T5irop7sIUI/AAAAAAAABWU/Kj80pqKiDdY/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800">. The night before he turned 3 months old he learned to roll from his back to tummy! He’s been working on this for the last 3 weeks or so. Of course we all missed it the first time he did it, we were eating dinner while he was playing on his play mat and all of a sudden we look over and he’s on his tummy! He got scared and starting crying since we all screamed how excited we were haha but since then he’s rolled over twice and I’ve been able to see it! I just can’t believe he’s 3 months old and already able to roll both ways, he’ll be crawling before we know it! Please, Jacob, slow down!! No need to grow up so fast! Now onto the stats and pictures…. </p> <p align="center"><strong>Height, Weight, and Dome-piece Circumference:</strong> <p align="center">24.75 inches long 96 % (Will update after 4 month check but I know this is wrong, I re-measured him at home and he was just barely 24 inches which is still long but not quite what we thought) <p align="center">13 lbs (at my work with clothes) <p align="center">40 cm head circ 49 % (Again, will update after check-up next month) <p align="center"> <p align="center"><strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong> <p align="center">Once again I’m packing up clothes to be put away in a bin. How can he be growing at this alarming rate?! He mostly still fits in 0-3 month stuff, his pants especially can’t be any bigger, but for the summer I bought him 3-6 month shirts and he can wear them now and he’s not totally swimming in them. As for sleepers he’s strictly in 3-6 months, there’s no way his long legs can scrunch into a smaller size. <p align="center">Size 1 diapers still, although I’ve thought about putting him in size 2 overnights since he’s sleeping better at night and don’t want a wet bed to be waking him up. <p align="center"><strong>Feeding:</strong> <p align="center">He eats 5 oz per feeding and eats every 3-4 hours during the day, and before he goes down for his naps he’ll snack on 2 oz. At night he’s usually only up 1 time to eat, although the other night he just couldn’t get enough of us and was up twice. <p align="center"><strong>Sleeping:</strong> <p align="center">Jacob’s sleeping has gotten so great! This month we made the decision to put him in his crib for all sleeping times and it has gone so smooth! Before he came along I swore I would never put a baby in their own room until they are 6 months old, that worked for Hannah and they say it also decreases risk for SIDS when they sleep in the same room as their parents. Well, never say never, because baby boy at 2.5 months was put in his crib in his own room for good! We decided to make the switch so young because he was no longer sleeping good in his swing, he was tossing his head and grunting so uncomfortable all night and he’s never been that great about sleeping in the pack n play so we figured we should try him out in his crib one night and baby boy was sound asleep all night long! Finally something that seemed to work. What made it even better? We got a glider chair and mobile with ocean sounds. Before every nap and before bedtime we turn on the mobile, rock him while feeding him and put him down drowsy but never really sound asleep and he puts himself fully to sleep once he’s in his crib. It was like all along all he wanted was for us to put him down and leave him alone. When he was sleeping in our room, he was going to bed later and later, it was getting to the point where we couldn’t go to sleep until 11:30pm and then he was waking up at least once to eat and then he could never get back to sleep very easily. Now, baby boy is going to bed around 8 pm!! He gets his bath around 7-7:30 pm and then off to dreamland after his bottle. He’s still up once to eat and he doesn’t go right back to sleep afterwards, but when he’s laying awake in his crib after the mid-night feeding he’s just chewing his hands and jabbering, no more grunts or angry baby. We never thought it would be so easy to make this transition. And the little secret that makes the transition easier on this momma?? Video monitor. I would never have been able to do this without that baby. Anytime I want to check to make sure he’s breathing, I can just take a gander at the screen. Love it! <p align="center"><strong>Milestones, Fun Stuff, and Factoids about our Boy:</strong> <p align="center"><strong></strong> <p align="center">*When laying on his play mat he’ll scoot his body around and will be in a completely different spot than where I left him. <p align="center">*Able to roll both ways- back to tummy and tummy to back! I'm happy to report things are moving right along! I'm officially completely out of my maternity garb and can fit in a lot of my pre- preg jeans and all my shirts. There are still a lot of pants that can't make the journey over my hips but that will come in due time. I've been sticking to my running and eating good and it's been paying off... Only 2 lbs away from the weight I started at!! Now I'd like to lose an additional 10 lbs after that but I'm working on 1 goal at a time here. In my last post about weight I wanted to be in my regular clothes by the time Jacob was 2.5 months old and I actually did better than that and have been in my clothes since before he turned 2 months and they just continue to fit and feel better each day! So I'm trying to not be so hard on myself and be proud of what I've accomplished so far.<br />
<br />
In other milestone news, it's crazy to think that in a mere 2 days will mark 1 year since I was headed to the dr to get my iud removed so we can try for baby #2. This last year has had ups and downs and a lot of uncertainty as to whether we would make it to deliver a healthy boy. I feel so blessed that as I'm typing this our little miracle baby is talking to me and giving me big 'ol smiles. I can't fathom that at some points in the very beginning we weren't sure he was even going to make it. How is that possible?! He's so amazing and full of life, growing and developing so much every day! I'm excited to see what the future brings for out sweet little guy, we just love him to pieces and feel so blessed he's all ours.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VeEi9RI3h2w/T4hPulL2FsI/AAAAAAAABWM/7Sa31I7jms4/s640/blogger-image--1604788447.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VeEi9RI3h2w/T4hPulL2FsI/AAAAAAAABWM/7Sa31I7jms4/s640/blogger-image--1604788447.jpg" /></a></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-49347926229311673052012-03-27T14:26:00.001-07:002012-03-27T14:26:11.517-07:002 Months Old<p align="center">How is my sweet Jacob Ryan already 2 months old?! It just doesn’t make sense, time is flying WAY too fast! I’m not ready for him to grow up so quickly… although I am ready for him to start sleeping through the night! <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-YGM5tfPdw6g/T3IwSbBQAhI/AAAAAAAABSs/VguqpI70Kvo/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> <p align="center">He had his 2 month check-up yesterday and he got a clean bill of health! Dr said he looks great, we are doing everything right, and he is, of course, advanced. As I was telling the Dr that he has already flipped from tummy to back all by himself she said that was not normal to be doing it this early and then he started scooting himself up the exam table- which she also pointed out was quite advanced for his little age! Go Jacob! But please, slow down! You’re just like your daddy, wanting to grow-up to fast. I also mentioned to the Doc that Jacob’s grunting keeps the neighborhood awake and his farts can rival that of a grown man’s so she thought he could be lactose intolerant. Say what?! This whole time we thought his reflux must be acting up but turns out he may not be able to handle the lactose that’s in his formula. So we are trying him on Similac lactose free formula hoping it’ll make him more comfortable and not so gassy/grunt-y. He doesn’t seem to gulp this formula down as hungrily as he usually does but we are already noticing WAY less gas, so he better get used to it and start likin’ it cause lactose free his diet will be if it makes him a happier, more comfortable baby. <p align="center">Jacob’s personality is really starting to come through more and more each day. He loves to smile now and he talks all the time, which is the sweetest sound. He’s starting to notice his toys and when he’s under his play mat he’ll bat at them on purpose, so cute! We just love this little guy to pieces and can’t imagine our family without him, he just fits in perfectly. Even Hannah doesn’t want to give him back! Now on to the stats….. <p align="center"><strong>Height, Weight, and Dome-piece Circumference:</strong> <p align="center">24.75 inches long 96 % <p align="center">10 lbs 13 oz 28% <p align="center">40 cm head circ 49 % <p align="center">So we’ve got ourselves a tall, skinny boy. And yes we’ve already got NBA dreams swirling in our heads and he’ll be making us the big bucks before we know it! <p align="center"><strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong> <p align="center">I have finally packed away all his newborn stuff. He hasn't been wearing newborn clothes since about 6 weeks old but I couldn't bring myself to take them out of his drawers. He could probably squeeze into some newborn onsies but he's prob more comfortable if we don't cram his little body into clothes :) He fits comfortably into 0-3 month stuff, but swims in a lot of the pants. <p align="center">Size 1 for dipes. <p align="center"><strong>Feeding:</strong> <p align="center">He eats 4-5 oz per feeding and eats every 3-4 hours during the day, then in the evenings he cluster feeds and about every 1-2 hours he'll eat 2-3 oz from 5:00-10:00 pm, then he “sleeps” for the night. He is still up 1-2 times per night to eat but has been better about going right back to sleep after his feedings. <p align="center"><strong>Sleeping:</strong> <p align="center">We are trying to get him on some sort of schedule. During the day he seems pretty consistent with being awake for 2 hours then asleep for 1-3 hours before being awake again. The length of time he sleeps really depends on what or where he is sleeping. He sleeps best in his swings or car seat and sleeping in his crib or pack n play doesn't last quite as long. At night we give him a bath around 8 pm, then feed him and try to put him down for the night around 9 pm in his swing that is upstairs in our room (since the prince doesn’t like to sleep anywhere that isn't a swing or more upright than his pack n play wedge). As you can see in the sequence of pictures above he is completely rolling from tummy to back on his own. There was no help or nudge from anyone. Promise. And this is not the first time he’s done it. Starting from his first tummy time at days old he was hiking his legs underneath his tummy trying to get on his back. “He can’t possibly be trying to roll over yet” is what I thought, even though he was doing that every single time we put him on his tummy. Then he kind of gave up on rolling for awhile until last week, as soon as I put him on his stomach he pushed off with his arms and went over to his back. “Must have been a fluke or I just set him up on his arms just right” I think. Until today, not yet 2 months old, I put him on his tummy, he gets his knees up underneath himself, pushes off with 1 arm, then kicks his leg over to finish the roll and tah-dah! He’s on his back. I know he’s doing it on purpose and I just can’t believe it! </p> <p align="center">We keep joking that he’s doing things far beyond his age should allow and that he’ll be walking by next week. At this point nothing surprises us with this boy. At 3 weeks old he was eating 5oz per feeding while the pedi is telling us he can’t eat that much, that’s way too much for a 3 week old. Well, he is eating that much, sorry! And no I’m not going to try to just give my demanding infant the 3oz you think is enough for his ever growing tummy. He was smiling on demand, and not just from gas, consistently since 2 weeks old. And we swear he is teething. Our younger than 2 months old baby is gumming at stuff, trying to find his hands to chew on them, chews on his binkie, and has started drooling the last 2 weeks. I know they say the second child seems to do stuff earlier cause they have a sibling to learn from, but these milestones he seems to be hitting are out of control! He can slow down at any moment…</p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center">I better stop updating the blog or he may apply for college while I’m otherwise occupied.</p> Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-38931140267134520112012-03-22T13:28:00.001-07:002012-03-22T13:28:05.150-07:00Modesty?! The number on the scale will.not.budge. BUT yesterday I threw caution to the wind and <strike>slipped</strike> stuffed my body into my William Rast pre-pregnancy jeans! They didn't quite fit like I want, I had a slight buldge here and there, but I could put them on and button them, too! These days it's the <span style="font-size: x-small;">small </span><span style="font-size: small;">victories that I should be proud of, right?!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Not the best picture of the actual jeans but I promise those are not maternity jeans. Woo hoo! Unfortunately they are the only pair of pre-pregnancy jeans that come even slightly close to fitting but one step at a time.</div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-52306727491282476922012-03-08T08:26:00.001-08:002012-03-08T08:26:48.550-08:00Inspiration<p align="center">Yeah, I have NONE of that. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Sleep deprivation after 6 weeks is finally catching up with me. I’m exhausted and have very little motivation for anything more than sitting on the couch. My poor 5 year old should really learn to fen for herself. <font size="2">Not really, but it would be nice if she could reach the milk and cereal so she could make herself some breakfast</font>. This infant of ours has got to learn how to sleep at night sometime very soon, or I will quite literally be catatonic here before you know it.<font size="2"> </font>I’m really surprised I don’t have caffeine on an IV drip… that sounds like it could do wonders for my day, but alas, insurance won’t pay for it. So, nothing exciting or interesting to write about besides my woes of not getting any shut-eye means you get a photo dump of my sweet darlings that are the reason I’m in such a state. Er, my body rather. The dreaded pregnancy pounds! Yes, I understand a healthy weight gain is important for the healthy development of the baby, but why does it have to be so difficult to lose weight after said healthy baby has arrived?? I don't agree with the whole "It took 9 months to gain, it'll take time to lose it". No thanks! Why can't your body magically appear back to normal once your precious little one arrives? I think there'd be a lot less instances of postpartum depression if that were the case. Just sayin...</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I gained the 'recommended' 35 lbs during this pregnancy, and the Dr never bat an eye as the number continued to climb, he said everything was perfect. As the pounds were being packed on I was thinking of all the work I was gonna have to put in later. Bleh. But I digress... </div>
<br />

<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zWXjEi76vtc/T1EU2MvH01I/AAAAAAAABEo/J08UuRtHAQo/s640/blogger-image--1944858861.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zWXjEi76vtc/T1EU2MvH01I/AAAAAAAABEo/J08UuRtHAQo/s640/blogger-image--1944858861.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Holy mackeral look at that belly!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that our sweet bundle has made his entrance I'm left with the uphill battle of getting rid of those lovely pounds the Dr thought were "just perfect!" and they aren't going away fast enough. So, I gained 35 lbs during the pregnancy but I started the pregnancy about 10 lbs heavier than I would have liked to be, which leaves me with 45 lbs I need to shed! Woah!! <span style="font-size: xx-small;">Ok, I can't believe I'm going to actually put this in writing but, here goes nothin'... </span><span style="font-size: small;">When I started I was 135 lbs. At delivery I was <span style="font-size: xx-small;">170 lbs</span>. During the first week after delivery I lost 15 lbs. Woo hoo! But now, almost 6 weeks later, I've only lost another 7 lbs and most of that came off during the first 2 weeks, so as of now I'm 148 lbs. I count calories, only eating around 1200 per day, and I'm running on the treadmill 3-4 times per week for at least 30 minutes each time and it doesn't seem to be doing much. Since counting calories, 3 weeks ago, I have lost 1 maybe 2 lbs! Say what?! Why all this work if I'm not seeing results? At this point I'm at a loss (or lack there of) on what to do. Maybe I need to give it more time? Probably, but I'm sort of an impatient person... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm so sick of my maternity pants, and that they still fit, they should at least be baggy by now, right? Nope, not for me. I'm able to wear my normal shirts again which is nice, my main problem is my wider hips, legs and butt and I guess that will just go down in time. I was about the same weight when I delivered Hannah and 2.5 months later I was wearing my normal pants again, and by 6 months I was smaller than I had ever been before and was wearing a size 2-4 weighing 120 lbs! Oh, to be that size again. I have so many pairs of designer jeans sitting in a bin and on my closet shelves just waiting to be worn, they call my name. I swear, I hear them. Anyways, so I'm giving myself until baby is 2.5 months old and I better be in my normal pants again, or else! <span style="font-size: xx-small;">I don't know what I'll do if that doesn't happen, it just sounded like the right thing to say :) </span><span style="font-size: small;">And then I hope to continue to lose so I can be at my goal weight sometime this year. To be continued. 23 lbs to go!</span></div>

I can’t relax until everything in the house is done and perfect. I hate to admit it but I like to get house stuff done even before getting down on the ground to play with Hannah. I just feel so distracted if there is chaos around me. Yes that sounds very silly, our house is FAR from chaos, but really I like things in their place and then I can enjoy my day. Hannah and I had a pretty good schedule down, we would relax in the morning, I could shower, get stuff done around the house, and we would even have time to do something fun before it was time for school. But then Mr. Jacob entered the “routine” and I thought he’d just slip right in seamlessly. Ha Again, I know that sounds silly <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-gYTmRMWpj2c/T06eTMkfO6I/AAAAAAAABEA/bNcw6e03fIQ/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center">Well, to say our routine is not going as “seamlessly” as it was before Jacob is an understatement. I feel like I’m racing against the clock every day to get stuff done and get Hannah to school on time. Before I know it, it’s 11:45 am and we have to hop in the car to get Han to school and we hadn’t even had any fun time. And the baby is in the middle of a bottle. And I still have slippers on. And… I could go on, and on. The TV has been on a little too long in the mornings, I’ve been making excuses for why I “need” to sit on the couch and search the internet mindlessly before I can go play but then it’s time for me to shower or I.won’t.have.time.to.dry.my.hair! What a catastrophe! I really hate to actually admit all this, Hannah and Jacob should always come first. I have such a short time at home with my precious kids and really, I am wasting it on the internet and drying my hair?? Something HAS to change.</p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center">As much as I feel like I might be slowly “dying” from <a href="http://nickshelbyhannah.blogspot.com/2012/02/sleep.html">sleep</a> deprivation, I’m not. I can and will survive with a little less shut eye. I will also survive if the house is not perfect ALL the time. AND blog and facebook posts will still be there 3 hours later, they aren’t going anywhere if I don’t look.at.them.at.this.very.moment. So, how am I going to change all this and enjoy this time that is slipping away so quickly?? I will be starting my day before the kids start theirs. *If you know how much I value sleep then you know this is a BIG deal for me* Getting up early will allow me to have some “me” time. I can wake up leisurely with my coffee and peruse the social media sites I can’t seem to live without, I can shower and dry my hair! I may even be able to eat something before 11:30 am! What a concept! Maybe get the house picked up and a load of laundry started. I typically like to run in the morning to get it out of the way, but between that and showering it eats up 2 hours of our morning! So I’d like to save my running for 2 evenings per week and the weekend mornings. Another rule I am making for myself, no blog reading in the morning after Hannah is awake. I have 3 hours while Hannah is at school and if Jacob keeps to his current nap schedule (hahaha- expecting a baby to continue a schedule they are currently on? Why do I tease myself like this…) I can get a couple hours of me time or a little shopping or house cleaning time in then, too. </p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center">I plan on trying to get out of bed and shower between 6-6:30 am, then I can have the quiet house to myself or even chat with my hubs before he’s off to work. Another bonus, if I can get used to waking up this early then getting back into my work routine in a couple months should be just a little easier! It felt so nice today to put the computer down and play “shop” with Hannah, then work on a puzzle, and help her with her homework. And I know she enjoyed the morning too. I need to get out of this rut and just enjoy our time together, it’s so fleeting with me having to go back to work and I don’t want to miss out.</p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center">And just because they are so cute, I’ll give you something to look at…</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-lqRzIfHvH24/T06eTj_izKI/AAAAAAAABEI/R2GVwTb6kHg/s1600-h/IMG_0967%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0967" border="0" alt="IMG_0967" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fWN-Txjvp70/T06eT3TKXmI/AAAAAAAABEQ/MPcSpPqQ-xE/IMG_0967_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="644" height="431"></a></p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ne9Z5TzuoLI/T06eUVvwSKI/AAAAAAAABEY/dWBg2UhjAo0/s1600-h/IMG_0850%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0850" border="0" alt="IMG_0850" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-2De7FMFh-qI/T06eUlq5y-I/AAAAAAAABEg/UfqNHoRAzUo/IMG_0850_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="324" height="484"></a></p> Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-51739649114696258282012-02-27T16:07:00.001-08:002012-02-27T16:07:12.633-08:00Sleep<div align="center">
It'd be nice to know what that is again... Jacob has been the worst sleeper at night these days. We noticed he normally has 1 bad night per week, well this week he had a couple. And last night he only went 3 hours in between feedings and then wanted to party for an hour or 2 after he ate! Um, I think he forgot he's 5 weeks old and not a newborn anymore. Maybe I should remind him that he can go 5-6 hours between feedings at night...</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
I went to bed at 10:30 pm, which was my first mistake I should have gone to sleep at 9:00 like he did. Anyways, then he was up at 12:30 am to eat, after feeding him and then hearing him again sometime in the 3 o'clock hour I think I started to wimper a bit. Seriously?! I had just put you back to bed, I barely got my eyes shut and you want to eat again!! I always try the pacifier for about 30 minutes before giving in and feeding him so I'm really up longer than I maybe need to be? But at that moment all I can think about is sleep and that maybe the binki will do the trick. When will I learn my little heffer is never happy with just a little sucking action?? After messing with the binki for awhile Nick got up and fed him. And he's telling me I need to go back to sleep, which is pretty impossible with a grunting, burping, farting infant in my ear, so my sweet hubs took him downstairs to get him to sleep. Then what felt like 3.5 seconds later he was waking up again and it was only about 6:20 am!!</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
I think I might expire early due to pure exhaustion! If you don't hear from me for awhile I either met an early demise or I'm off drooling in the corner in a catatonic state. Let's hope I get a little sleep so none of the before mentioned happens... </div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-46181967751493812202012-02-26T19:49:00.002-08:002012-02-26T19:49:25.928-08:00Welcome to my Crib<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oER0fTSzrVI/T0qb9QOemuI/AAAAAAAABCE/yevGqpJF_Fk/s640/blogger-image-929786291.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oER0fTSzrVI/T0qb9QOemuI/AAAAAAAABCE/yevGqpJF_Fk/s640/blogger-image-929786291.jpg" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today was the first day Jacob napped in his crib. </div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pretty much from the day we brought Hannah home I put her on a schedule, I knew that was the best thing for all of us to get in a good groove, and they say children do better on a schedule, so that's what we did. With Jacob I wanted to be a little more lax since I would only be home with him for a short time and if I felt like holding him during his nap then I was going to do that, I didn't want to be tied down to a strict schedule like I had been with Hannah. But at the same time I also knew I wanted to get Jacob used to his crib early on so it wasn't a strange environment for him all of a sudden when he's 6 months old and sleeping in there at night. (Because yes, he WILL be in our room until he is 6 months old, I couldn't imagine putting him all the way down the hallway any younger than that)</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are quickly realizing Jacob is not <em>quite </em>as easy of a baby as Hannah was. Is this because he isn't on a good schedule yet? Is he just more tempramental? Does his reflux make him fussy? Whatever the case may be we are trying to figure anything out to help these fussy times and would also like his midnight parties to be kept to a minimum. So, I've decided now is as good as time as any to start naps in his crib instead of having him always sleeping in his chair/swing during the day and maybe get him on some sort of schedule.</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So today, I wrapped him in his cozy blanket and rocked him to sleep then put him in his crib all the way up in his room... but of course I turned his new video monitor on which allows me to view him at all times and I can even zoom in and see that he's breathing. Yes, I'm crazy and constantly think my baby is going to stop breathing at any moment so I like to be able to see that his chest is moving up and down :) and his nap was a success! He never has an issue sleeping during the day but I wasn't sure how it would go in his bed, and it didn't seem to phase him. He grunted and moved around like normal but had a good 2-3 hour nap and woke up ready to eat. I'd say it was a success. So unless I'm running errands or doing something with/for Hannah he'll be taking his naps in his crib. </div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-57818818489560965922012-02-26T19:32:00.001-08:002012-02-26T19:32:31.032-08:00For Your Viewing Pleasure. 1 Month Old<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

*Does anyone know how to flip the pictures to be turned the correct way? They are turned correctly before I upload them to blogger and then they go back?? Not sure what that's about...*Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-32930375645103093952012-02-25T09:04:00.001-08:002012-02-25T09:04:08.031-08:001 Month Old<div style="text-align: center;">
My sweet baby boy is 1 month old! How is that even possible?? I swear we just brought him home. (I guess a month isn't THAT long and we really did JUST bring him home, but you know what I'm sayin...)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Jacob is such a sweet, cuddly boy... when he's full and has a dry diaper :) He LOVES to be held and I'm (usually) always willing to ablige and hold him. His 3:00 am party sessions can get a little tiring when we are passing him back and forth trying to figure out how to get him to sleep, but he'll just stare at you and give you those smiling eyes it's hard to be mad about losing sleep. Hannah loves her little brother and is always wanting to hold, kiss, and hug on him, it's the sweetest thing. We really are blessed Hannah is such a GREAT big sister, she takes her job very seriously and Jacob is lucky to have her as a sibling.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now onto the stats...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Weight:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As of 2/22/12 he weighed 8 lbs 7.5 oz which is such an improvement, his birth weight was 7 lbs 3 oz and at the NICU he dropped down to 6 lbs 9 oz, then on 2/03/12 he was 6 lbs 12 oz (so his weight gain was slow but quickly picked up to normal 1 oz per day) and on 2/08/12 he weighed 7 lbs 4 oz.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They didn't measure length since it was just a circ follow-up (which healed perfectly and Nick is happy to report that the dr has mentioned on a couple occasions that his son has quite the size on him :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Clothes and Diaper sizes:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He still wears newborn clothes, but he can wear 0-3 month size, it's just still pretty baggy on him. He can still wear newborn dipes but they are getting a little snug and size 1 work much better for leakage control! So we are just using up the rest of newborn dipes then he'll only wear size 1.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Feeding:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He eats anywhere from 4-6 oz per feeding, we know that's WAY too much for him at this age but sometimes those 4 oz just don't cut it. He eats every 3-4 hours during the day then in the evenings he cluster feeds and about every 1-2 hours he'll eat 2-3 oz from 5:00-10:00 pm, then he sleeps for the night.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Sleeping:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He sleeps great during the day, we are still working on the night sleep. Once he is down for the night, which is anywhere between 7:30-10:00pm, he'll go about 5 hours from his last feeding, he gets up to eat and *usually* goes right back to sleep, but if he doesn't then the little booger is up for 2 hours, just hanging out! Then he'll go another 3-4 hours and be up for the day, or rather until Hannah wakes up then he takes his morning nap so there's no hope for us getting additional sleep. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Milestones and Fun Stuff:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He had his first realy smile on 2/09/12, he looked right at me and gave me a big 'ol smile with dimples and all! Now he'll have mulitple smiles per day, I can never catch them on camera though.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From the first tummy time he was trying to roll over, literally up on his side kicking his feet to push him to his back, but he has yet to actually get over.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He holds his own bottle, and pretty well at that! From day 1 he would put his hands right under that bottle and I figured it was a reflex of sorts but he has not stopped! Every feeding his hands are right under that bottle and sometimes we can let go and he's feeding himself.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Loves sleeping on his side.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We burp him sitting up right holding his face in our hand, we can never get a good burp when he's over the shoulder.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He still loves to curl in a little ball so holdng him over the shoulder is difficult but he's starting to like that way more and more, otherwise he just loves the cradle hold. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Around week 3 he started getting real tears when he cries and I hate it, it's so sad.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Smiles every time he poops! Weirdo... :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
*For some reason I wasn't able to upload pictures so again they will be in a different post* And, this was supposed to be published yesterday when he turned 1 month old, February 24th. :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_uvYvs7rIew/T0Zv6fWICbI/AAAAAAAABBU/V6sFjKw5pu4/s1600/IMG_0642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" lda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_uvYvs7rIew/T0Zv6fWICbI/AAAAAAAABBU/V6sFjKw5pu4/s400/IMG_0642.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Recovery from delivery was great for the both of us. We slept, breastfed, changed poopy diapers, shared baby with visitors and breastfed some more. The only *issue* we encountered was Jacob kept gagging and choking on his spit up, which was very thick and mucousy and had some blood in it. All the nurses and doctors said he just swallowed amniotic fluid and blood during delivery and he just had to clear it out. They put a wedge under his bassinet and took him to the nursery a couple times to suction him out when he would start choking. But it was no big deal and no one was concerned. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We got discharged Wednesday, the day after delivery, and just enjoyed being home as a family of 4. I continued to only breastfeed, my milk wasn't in yet so he wasn't getting much but what he was getting he seemed to be spitting up. Thursday middle of the night we gave in and fed our ravenous baby 2 ounces of formula after I had breastfed for 2 hours straight and he ended up puked it all up. We just figured he ate it to quickly and his tummy wasn't used to that much food. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Friday morning was the day of his 2 day check up and after breastfeeding I supplemented with an ounce or 2 of formula and while burping him he puked everything up all over the both of us. This puke seemed different, it was very colorful: green, red, and brown and it included a couple small blood clots. Obviously, Nick and I were very concerned so we brought the clothes and blanket he threw up on to show the dr at his appointment. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After weighing and masuring him (he weighed 6 lbs 11 oz and was 21 inches long) we immediately showed the dr what our newborn had produced that morning and told her he is puking everything he is eating. She seemed very concerned and after looking him over quickly left the room to call the neonatologist to get advice on his colorful throw up. She said we needed to wait there and it could take awhile to get ahold of him.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*Insert freak out here* I called my mom and broke down crying, I just couldn't believe anything could be wrong with our perfect baby. We had dealt with so much during the pregnancy we were hoping for an easy entry into the world for our precious boy. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The dr came back in about 5 minutes later giving us instructions to head straight to the NICU downtown, we couldn't go to Roseville because if he needed surgery they would have to transport him downtown anyway since they don't do neonate surgery at Roseville. (Wait, did she just say surgery?) She said don't go to the ER or adminssions, but head straight to the NICU cause she didn't want us to wait.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We arrive at the NICU and they already have a bed and nurse waiting for him there in the high risk room A. We were next to babies that were born as early as 26 weeks. We looked around and felt like we were so out of place with our full term, healthy baby. They explain we will be doing an abdominal x-ray and then a barium swallow to check for a blockage. The green he was throwing up was bile and with newborns they are concerned with a blockage that would have to be fixed with surgery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The x-ray showed his poor tummy and intestines were full of gas, which was really a good sign meaning things were moving through and he didn't have a full on blockage, but it was no wonder he seemed uncomfortable with all that gas. Then he gets the barium swallow, and poor baby was so hungry from not eating all day he sucked down the barium straight from the bottle, which is unusual, they normally have to do an NG tube to get the barium down. Well, since he did eat it so quickly the radiologist wasn't able to get a picture of the exact spot the surgeon needed to see so he ended up having to get the NG tube done anyways so they could control how quickly the barium goes through him. And let me just say, having to hold your newborn's head down and binkie in his mouth so a nurse can put a tube down his nose and throat was an experience I never want to go through again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since I had to pump, Nick went with J to get this study done and the radiologist was able to tell him right in the x-ray room that there was no blockage and the barium went through perfectly! The only thing he did have wrong was reflux. What?! It's just reflux!! We could deal with that! They wanted to monitor him to see how severe his reflux was, because in some instances babies will need surgery to fix the muscle at the top of the stomach to reduce the reflux, but most likely he wouldn't need that.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He was finally able to eat something and they started him on a special formula that was thicker so it would stay down better. We started him slowly and the whole time we were there he didn't spit up once! They monitored him overnight, feeding him every 2-3 hours and then sitting him upright in an infant seat for an hour after feeding, using gravity to keep food down. The next morning he was moved to the room where babies are discharged from. It was crazy to think where we had come from over the last 24 hours, we arrived at the NICU anticipating surgery for our little guy and being told about social services that would help Hannah understand what was happening to her baby brother to Jacob having reflux, needing to eat a different formula and being kept upright for 30-60 minutes after feedings. It was such an emotional rollercoaster and we just kind of went with the flow, I mean what else could we do? It seemed too much to process. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Around 11 o'clock on Saturday the neonate dr came in to talk with us and asked if we were comfortable taking baby home... um yes please! We so badly wanted to get Hannah and Jacob home, and start our new normal. We were tired of hospitals and just wanted to enjoy our baby. Thankfully, Jacob was healthy enough and doing really well they discharged us with instructions on how to feed him and to follow up with his pedi a couple days later. They didn't want to start him on medication yet if he wasn't going to need it. But after being home a couple days, he seemed uncomfortable and was spitting up some of his feedings so at the follow-up appointment his pedi started him on 1/4 of a pill of prevacid, that worked for about 3 weeks and now he takes 1/2 a pill. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He's doing wonderfully now, he still pukes a couple of his feedings per day, but we can tell he's much happier and doesn't kick or arch his back in pain anymore. They call him a happy spitter :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Being in the NICU next to those tiny, premature babies that had already had multiple surgeries in their short lives really put things in perspective for us. Sure our new baby could have needed surgery but it was so minor compared to what a lot of other babies go through. We wouldn't have had to worry if he would survive it, cause we know he would have, where as the parents in the NICU next to us had held their baby while he was dying but then he pulled through, and they had gone through this a couple times in the 8 weeks he had been alive. I couldn't imagine the kind of emotional rollercoaster those families go through and we feel very blessed with the health of our children and do not take that for granted. We are so happy to be home and are loving our life as a famly of 4, it would be nice to get a little more sleep, but other than that we could not complain :)</div>

Jacob Ryan is the sweetest, most cuddly little boy and I could just hold him all day long! The last 3 weeks <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">have</span> gone by incredibly fast and I can't believe he's 3 weeks old already but on the other hand it feels like Jacob has always been a part of our family... if that makes any sense. :) Big sister Hannah is adjusting perfectly and she also acts like he has always been around. As of yet we haven't had to deal with jealousy issues, I'm sure they will come, but I'm hoping since she is a little older they won't be quite as severe as if she had been a toddler when we had another baby. Jacob has kind of just slipped right into our routine, he joins us at the dinner table and has yet to miss out on story time, sometimes things take a little longer than intended but it all still gets done! We are so lucky to have been blessed with this sweet boy and are very thankful he is here, happy and healthy! Now onto how he entered this world...<br />
<br />
Our last Dr appointment was January 16<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">th</span> and Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Cueto</span> wanted for me to go the rest of the week to see if I would go into labor on my own and then by Friday he would call me and set up the induction for Monday, January 23rd, morning if nothing had happened. To say the least I was totally deflated after that appointment. I was done being pregnant and so ready to meet Jacob that the thought of another week seemed forever! I had not progressed anymore so Dr stripped my membranes which I had had done with Hannah a couple times so I had zero faith in that actually doing anything. The week goes by and Dr calls Friday afternoon telling me to call labor and delivery Monday morning around 5:30 am to check for an available bed. He said it should be slow on a Monday morning and we would have no problem getting started early. We enjoyed our last weekend as a family of 3 and got the house and last minute things ready to bring baby home. Sunday night we drop Hannah at my parents house and both of us get barely any sleep cause we were too excited about the next morning. We get up early, shower and get the car packed and I call L&D at 5:30 am, they inform me there are no beds available and the charge nurse will call when one becomes available, she (the most rude woman ever) said she had no idea when we would be able to come in and to just wait for a call. We watched <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">tv</span> and around 7 am I called the nurse back just to check, again she informed me (very rudely, I might add) that she would call as soon as a bed was available. Oh to say I was upset was an understatement, I think I instantly started crying. We continued to wait around ALL morning and I made a call to Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Cueto</span> to find out what the plan was going to be, he finally called me back around 1:30 pm to say the hospital was just too busy today, too many women were in labor and no one was progressing so we would just have to wait for Tuesday morning and try this whole thing all over again. I instantly broke down and cried for pretty much the rest of the day, I <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">layed</span> in bed and did nothing but mope around. I was so upset that we would have to be away from Hannah another night and that there was no guarantee that we would even get a room on Tuesday morning either, Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Cueto</span> said it was a guessing game and no guarantee's since I was not a risk or "having" to be induced for a specific reason. So, Monday night we bring Hannah back to my parents around 5 and head out to dinner, just the 2 of us. We were literally down the street from Chili's when I get a phone call from Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Cueto</span>! He asked if we wanted to come in that night and be induced!! A room was available and we should be there in an hour to get things started! We rushed home to shower and get our bags and arrived at the hospital at 7 pm.<br />
<br />
We get our room, which happened to be the big room, start paperwork and nurse starts my IV of fluids. Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">Cueto</span> comes in and that's when we find out he's the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">dr</span> on call that night so he would for sure be delivering, woo <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">hoo</span>!!! (At this point I was still very skeptical that we would be delivering in a timely manner, Hannah's induction took over 32 hours and I was expecting this one to take the same amount of time at least) Dr checked me, I was 2 cm and 50% effaced and very soft cervix, Dr was going to break my water at that point to get things moving (which scared the heck <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">outa</span> me since I knew once your water is broken contractions are so much worse) but baby put his hand on top of his head and Dr didn't want to break my water with his hand there since he would start to come down the birth canal with my water broken and it would make for a more difficult delivery if his hand/arm got stuck there. So we got started on <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">pitocin</span> and told to get comfortable. :) Our nurse was not the most personable but she was nice and would check on us every hour or more if needed. She showed Nick how to plug everything in and reset the contraction monitor so she didn't have to come in after <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">every time</span> I went to the bathroom which seemed like every 10 minutes! I started feeling contractions but nothing painful and they were coming every 2-3 minutes. Around 11 pm Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">Cueto</span> came in to check on us, I was still 2 cm but baby's hand had moved so he broke my water. Now typically it's not supposed to be painful when they break your water but oh boy that was the most painful check I had ever had. I was practically jumping off the bed and the hook kept slipping on the bag of water so it took way longer than it should have but finally it broke and I had that lovely wetting your pants feeling for the next 30 minutes or so. :) Lovely.<br />
<br />
As I knew they would, contractions got a lot worse and around 1 am I could not talk or move through them and they were coming every 1.5-2 minutes so I was not getting a break. The nurse said I was 4 cm and 80% effaced! (I was so excited since with Hannah I was 2 cm for about 24 hours into labor and I couldn't believe I was actually progressing this time!) I asked for some pain <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15">meds</span> in my IV to help take the edge off so I could try and sleep. Well, it took them a full hour to actually bring medication in my room and I thought I was going to die. The nurse administering the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16">meds</span> asked if I had planned on getting an epidural, which of course I had, I just wanted to wait until I had progressed a little more so the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17">epidural</span> wouldn't slow my labor. She then told me she was going to give me the same <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_18">meds</span> in my IV that was in the epidural so I would have to wait awhile to get the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_19">epi</span> since I would have that same medication in my system already and my labor wouldn't slow since I was on <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_20">pitocin</span> and they control how my labor goes. It didn't take much convincing for me to say OK!!! to the epidural and that sweet, sweet man came in about 5 minutes later with those wonderful drugs! Getting the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_21">epi</span> was so terrible, having to be still during contractions but he <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_22">literally</span> only took 8 minutes from start to finish! This <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_23">anesthesiologist</span> was a god send for sure. This was also the best epidural ever, I had the best warm tingly feeling down my legs but I could still move them on my own and I didn't feel any more contractions! At this point Nick and I tried to get some sleep, but since my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_24">BP</span> cuff was going off every 30 minutes I couldn't actually fall asleep but I was able to rest.<br />
<br />
<span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_25">Around</span> 5 am I was 6 cm and 80% effaced and Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_26">Cueto</span> said once I hit 6 cm it would go fast from there. Over the next hour I kept feeling like I had to pee really bad, I kept asking the nurse to make sure my catheter wasn't kinked, cause it felt like my urine wasn't flowing but she said everything was fine and that's when I noticed I was getting that feeling with every contraction so I guess the baby was just pushed up against my urethra? I dunno, but I never got the "I gotta poop" pressure they always tell you about so I just thought I was going to have to deal with this feeling for the rest of my labor- which still had to be hours more since I was only 6 cm. Well, since I mentioned this "feeling" a couple times the nurse checked me at about 6:15 am and I was 9 cm!! She said it would probably be 30-45 minutes until I was ready to push since I still had some cervix left and she had me lay on my side. No more than 10 minutes later Dr <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_27">Cueto</span> walked in and wanted to check for himself and he had me do a test push and instantly told me to stop pushing and we needed to get the nursery in the room cause we were having a baby! I couldn't believe it, it was all of a sudden happening so fast! While he's telling the nurse to hurry and set up, get the nursery in the room, he was staring at baby's head and kept telling me not to push or do anything cause he was going to be here any minute. Finally, about 8-10 minutes later, Dr let me push and it only took 3 good pushes and there was our baby!! The <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_28">dr</span> was holding him up and I just reached out for him! It was the best moment ever. At 6:34 am Jacob Ryan was born! He was able to lay right on my chest for as long as I wanted, the nursery nurse said I could take my time and that baby looked great. Nick cut the cord and we just enjoyed those first minutes with our new son.<br />
<br />
Eventually, they weighed and measured him, he was 7 lbs 3 ounces and 19 inches long (although, at his first <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_29">dr</span> appointment he measured 21 inches, which seemed more correct), he got his antibiotic eye ointment and vitamin K shot, for which he didn't even cry, he just looked down at his leg wondering what was going on. He was so calm and quiet, just taking everything in. It was all such a wonderful experience. (The only not so wonderful part was getting stitched up, the epidural was starting to wear off and I was able to feel the last stitch and when they were pushing on my stomach to make my uterus contract and get everything out). I never thought I would say I had a great labor and delivery but I really did, sure I was in pain for some of it but overall the entire experience could not have been more perfect. Labor was only 10 hours from <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_30">beginning</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_31">pitocin</span> and recovery was even very smooth. I am so happy with how everything went, and most importantly with our end result- our sweet baby boy!<br />

*The pictures weren't able to upload for some reason, I'll put them in a separate post*Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-14238146611816607482012-01-09T08:36:00.001-08:002012-01-09T08:45:33.302-08:0038 weeks...And I'm definitely feeling every minute of it! Went to the dr last Friday and my bp was actually a little better so dr wasn't quite ready to make this boy come yet- I begged to differ but dr wants baby to try and come on his own time. Which I would much rather have happen to, but the last couple weeks are just so difficult, and uncomfortable!! I'm 2 cm dilated and he said baby's head is super low, he was able to scratch his head! So weird!! Hannah was pretty sad she couldn't touch the baby's head haha but how do I say "I'm sorry honey, but I don't want your hand in my vagina", it just didn't seem right to say that to a 5 year old! :) dr also seems to think I'll have an easy labor since baby is so low and ready to go, I sure hope he's right!! <br />
So this weekend we have been in full on baby inducing mode! We went for skipolini's prego pizza on Friday and did lots of walking all weekend. On Saturday I had contractions on and off for about 6 hours but it just fizzled out when I went to sleep. :( so walking continues, I plan on walking Han to school this week, let's just hope it doesn't take all week to get him here. After I walk for a bit my pelvis is so sore I can barely move the rest of the day! My next appt isn't until Jan 16th, here's to hoping I don't have make it to that appt!!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fYEl2wzyOqQ/TwsZrLvU70I/AAAAAAAAA3Y/eBQbPhu3Kdw/s640/blogger-image-932873265.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fYEl2wzyOqQ/TwsZrLvU70I/AAAAAAAAA3Y/eBQbPhu3Kdw/s640/blogger-image-932873265.jpg" /></a></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-83239479882959734132012-01-04T13:42:00.000-08:002012-01-04T14:22:01.422-08:00The last 6 weeksUgh I'm a terrible blogger, I just realized I haven't updated since I was taken out of work at 31 weeks! Not much has changed though, and obviously baby Jacob is still cooking, which is a GREAT thing! So on to the update...<br /><br />34 weeks<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RseQVculgyI/TwTIhB_mQtI/AAAAAAAAA3I/miQ0ejXIkAU/s1600/34%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693896298699571922" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RseQVculgyI/TwTIhB_mQtI/AAAAAAAAA3I/miQ0ejXIkAU/s320/34%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uA75WvAURM0/TwTIgrCw2YI/AAAAAAAAA28/YIABWfJPOIk/s1600/34%2Bweeks%25283%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693896292538833282" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uA75WvAURM0/TwTIgrCw2YI/AAAAAAAAA28/YIABWfJPOIk/s320/34%2Bweeks%25283%2529.JPG" /></a><br />36 weeks<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E1uJ8tyYMuA/TwTIf2imD5I/AAAAAAAAA2w/Iy7WCSdRdRk/s1600/36%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 238px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693896278445264786" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E1uJ8tyYMuA/TwTIf2imD5I/AAAAAAAAA2w/Iy7WCSdRdRk/s320/36%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG" /></a><br /></div><br /><div>37 weeks (Hannah took this picture haha)<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5wUbVdJdUnQ/TwTIfmAWpLI/AAAAAAAAA2k/kyCIK6tpkEs/s1600/IMG_0442.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 316px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693896274006680754" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5wUbVdJdUnQ/TwTIfmAWpLI/AAAAAAAAA2k/kyCIK6tpkEs/s320/IMG_0442.JPG" /></a> </div><br /><div>Right now I am 37.4 weeks and feel every bit of it! Through this whole pregnancy both Nick and I were just trying to survive it and get the baby here at a healthy time, we weren't able to enjoy it cause we were worried he was going to be born too early. Now that we are in the "safe zone" and past the holiday craziness Jacob can be born anytime and he is considered full term! Yay!! We feel like we've made it so far and now just cannot wait to meet the little guy! Nick says this is the time that I should be enjoying and of course over the last 2 weeks I've become increasingly uncomfortable! The baby dropped around 36 weeks and I can definitely feel the pressure and my pelvis feels like it's gonna break whenever I move, it's really lovely! :)I had an appointment right before baby dropped and I was not dilated at all but my cervix was "soft", so I'm very curious to see if I've dilated now, cause I sure feel like he may just come out at any moment! The Dr didn't check me at my last appointment and said he will this Friday. BP was still a concern over the last 6 weeks but not enough to have the baby be born, which is great news. It looks like I won't develop preeclampsia afterall since I haven't had protein in my urine, so my BP and fast heart rate are just because of pregnancy and it should go down after baby is here. It looks like the Dr will still induce before 40 weeks, at my last appointment he mentioned 39 weeks, because having an elevated BP just isn't healthy whether I develop preeclampsia or not. All I can say is we are all ready for baby to be here and if on Friday he wants to schedule an induction we would be thrilled! </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Symptoms: Pressure down below and pelvis/hip pain, sciatic pain still, and the top of my stomach skin feels like it's on fire and nothing helps! I still get heart burn, pretty much daily, but I try not to take meds everyday. I get nauseous a lot lately and I feel like I'm constantly trying to catch my breath- which I think is due to my increased pulse rate since the baby is now so low so it wouldn't be because he's taking up lung room. I got stretch marks on my sides when I was pregnant with Hannah and this time I've goten some on my stomach :( They aren't super red or anything so I'm hoping it doesn't look too bad when I lose the weight. Sleep has been terrible, my dreams are so vivid I feel like I get a restless sleep because of it, but I guess I'm just preparing to survive on less sleep.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Weight gain: 35 lbs, Blah!! I was really not wanting to gain as much weight this time around but alas I'm almost to the weight I was when I delivered Hannah. I'm just hoping I lose it like I did after Hannah, I got down to my lowest weight ever about 6 months after Hannah was born, which was 118lbs, and I plan to get to that weight again. Maybe I'll even document my journey on this blog about shedding the lbs once Jcob arrives... so I'm going to have to lose about 50 lbs, OMG!!! I wish I could start now, but I guess I should enjoy the last couple days of food until I need to change my way of eating. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Best moments this week: I still love feeling baby move and watching my stomach get all contorted, and it's so sweet hearing Hannah talk to her brother. It was also great when the Dr said if we get close to my due date Jacob will probably be about 7 to 7.5lbs, we have been preparing ourselves for an early, tiny baby and now he will be average size- we can't wait to see how big he will actually be!! Not much longer...<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><div></div></div></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-88182338248327450562011-11-29T13:15:00.001-08:002011-11-29T13:45:03.577-08:0031 Weeks and a little update28 weeks:<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pp3stCPlmw8/TtVLopu_L9I/AAAAAAAAA2Y/G0yrSzUjv6I/s1600/28%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680529666767531986" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pp3stCPlmw8/TtVLopu_L9I/AAAAAAAAA2Y/G0yrSzUjv6I/s320/28%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oW3kOz31sv8/TtVLoaHWbTI/AAAAAAAAA2I/musnZtNKUM0/s1600/28%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680529662574751026" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oW3kOz31sv8/TtVLoaHWbTI/AAAAAAAAA2I/musnZtNKUM0/s320/28%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG" /></a><br />31 weeks:<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Z9zFPBv-I4/TtVLoLMfa2I/AAAAAAAAA2A/Wz9jRWkGp34/s1600/31%2Bweeks.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 239px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680529658569780066" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Z9zFPBv-I4/TtVLoLMfa2I/AAAAAAAAA2A/Wz9jRWkGp34/s320/31%2Bweeks.jpg" /></a> I'm actually 32.3 weeks along now but I didn't take a 32 week picture. Here at 32 weeks along I'm once again on"modified bedrest". Everything was going pretty well and I felt pretty good, besides the horrendous sciatic pain, until around 28-29 weeks. My blood pressure at my monthly check up at 29 weeks was a little elevated and instead of being seen again in 4 weeks Dr Cueto wanted to see me in 2. He wasn't totally worried but told me to call him if anything felt off. Week went by ok, but the following week I really started to feel crappy. I was getting daily headaches and my BP at work was up to 148/80's-90's everyday, but no protein in my urine yet. I let the Dr know and he told me to just keep my appointment that was coming up the next Monday at 31 weeks. At my appointment at 31.2 weeks my BP was 152/86 and trace protein in my urine so Dr Cueto walks in the room and announces "Who's stopping work today??", he put me on modified bedrest, told me no long walks araound Costco or long shopping trips. He wants me to relax with my feet up for most of the day but if I feel like going for a walk then I should go, so I'm not at risk for going into preterm labor. However, I am at risk for completely developing preeclampsia and being put into preterm labor by Dr Cueto if my BP stays up or I get more protein in my urine. He wants to get baby to 36 or 37 weeks and he thinks me taking it easy should accomplish that, but I'm really hoping to make it 40 weeks. Not only do I not want Jacob born early but we'd also like to avoid being in the hospital over Christmas or New Year's. :) This last week being off work has definitely brought my BP down, I can feel it, I still get slight headaches but they aren't as pounding as they were when I was working. But the newest symptom I've seemed to develop is floaters in my vision, they aren't there all the time and it's not in my central vision so I'm not totally worried but I will be mentioning it to Dr Cueto on Monday. We are really hoping it's not a sign that I have higher protein in my urine and that baby will have to be born early. Needless to say this pregnancy has been quite the roller coaster, but I do feel so good that we made it this far and (god forbid) if Jacob were born today he would probably be just fine. It's a lot different than the risks we were facing with the hemorrhage at 7-14 weeks when he was almost not even given the chance to make it this far. I didn't have any issues with Hannah's pregnancy so it's very weird for us to be dealing with this. It's also strange to develop preeclampsia in your 2nd pregnancy when you didn't have it the first go round but from reading about it, it says it can happen if the placenta didn't attach correctly early in pregnancy (ie: the hemorrhage) which results in the constriction of blood vessels, thus causing a rise in BP, and so on. So here we are now, relaxing and keeping baby inside for as long as possible. Nick has been the BEST husband I could ever have asked for, he absolutely won't let me do anything (which tends to get on my nerves at times) but I know it's for the best for the health of Jacob and right now that's most important! I'll try and update after our next appointment this next Monday, let's hope nothing has progressed!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-4450662539584590462011-11-02T14:36:00.001-07:002011-11-02T15:02:20.874-07:00Happy 5th Birthday Hannah Grace!!Hannah had the best birthday! Each year it keeps getting better and better, I just hope we can keep up! :) Her birthday started with her celebration at school....<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b86o1imaRxg/TrG6pE_DZuI/AAAAAAAAA1Y/SjZVIc1XZ-w/s1600/IMG_1490.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670518620711773922" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b86o1imaRxg/TrG6pE_DZuI/AAAAAAAAA1Y/SjZVIc1XZ-w/s320/IMG_1490.JPG" /></a> Everyone sang Happy Birthday and she loved it! Her school doesn't allow treats to be brought to class so we bought a couple new board games to donate to the class so come rainy days all the kids will be able to enjoy them together.<br /><br />Then on her actual birthday her school was closed so Nick and I both took the day off to spend it with our birthday girl. We started with a powdered donut breakfast cake, played mini golf, then went to Dave and Buster's (per her request) for lunch and games! It was the perfect family day.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dmBeOYEfPEE/TrG6oF5emsI/AAAAAAAAA1M/gDo-cmTtOdU/s1600/IMG_1494.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670518603776957122" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dmBeOYEfPEE/TrG6oF5emsI/AAAAAAAAA1M/gDo-cmTtOdU/s320/IMG_1494.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aT1ay5uQhLo/TrG6nemWexI/AAAAAAAAA1A/CCQhQgtjhVg/s1600/IMG_1500.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670518593227750162" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aT1ay5uQhLo/TrG6nemWexI/AAAAAAAAA1A/CCQhQgtjhVg/s320/IMG_1500.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670518574843418178" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EDnRrtSebU8/TrG6maHL1kI/AAAAAAAAA00/tDXANrw5L9c/s320/IMG_1506.JPG" /></div><br /><div></div><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670518057797878018" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XGx0r65l5pc/TrG6IT97AQI/AAAAAAAAA0U/nXurcgxKRTQ/s320/IMG_1516.JPG" /></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Then on Saturday we had her party at Tricks gymnastics. This was the first year we didn't have her party at home and it was the BEST! All the kids had an awesome time and we were able to come home to a clean house. The place did everything, we just sat back, took pictures, and enjoyed our girl's day.</div><br /><div>Hannah invited all her friends from Childtime, it was so nice to catch up with the parents since we haven't seen any of them since she started kindergarten. And picture overload from the party...</div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aHuKW2UHRqw/TrG6GfY2B7I/AAAAAAAAAz4/u6yhZX-JC9w/s1600/IMG_1537.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; This was Hannah's birthday, we went and played mini golf and had so much fun! Just shy of 26 weeks...<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E6SkSSCByRY/TpthMcO4wjI/AAAAAAAAAxE/8wEh28VWMT8/s1600/IMG_1516.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664227822713487922" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E6SkSSCByRY/TpthMcO4wjI/AAAAAAAAAxE/8wEh28VWMT8/s320/IMG_1516.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div>23 Weeks</div><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJ8VDdvO1zQ/TptdaUnYtyI/AAAAAAAAAw4/ZxWvlTfO1Ww/s1600/23%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664223663140419362" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJ8VDdvO1zQ/TptdaUnYtyI/AAAAAAAAAw4/ZxWvlTfO1Ww/s320/23%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LOEpkVSOu7c/TptdZ2fU_LI/AAAAAAAAAws/b_Jtck5Hxb0/s1600/23%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664223655053556914" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LOEpkVSOu7c/TptdZ2fU_LI/AAAAAAAAAws/b_Jtck5Hxb0/s320/23%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG" /></a><br />25 weeks<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dspOZKxfz2A/TptdZq_uEGI/AAAAAAAAAwg/TF-Ki815NEs/s1600/25%2Bweeks%25283%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664223651968192610" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dspOZKxfz2A/TptdZq_uEGI/AAAAAAAAAwg/TF-Ki815NEs/s320/25%2Bweeks%25283%2529.JPG" /></a> Weight gain: As of 26 weeks (which I am today) it's 21 lbs. So, in the next 14 weeks if I gain a pound a week it'll be total gain of 35 lbs, which I guess is still within "normal" weight gain for a pregnancy. All I can say is I cannot wait to lose this weight and get skinnier than ever after baby comes out all chunky and happy! I am eating ice cream and cheeseburgers for the baby of course!! It's not for me.... I promise. </div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div>Symptoms: For the most part I'm feeling pretty good. I'm tired and my sciatic pain is killer on most days, but I'm working full time and then take care of a crazy 5 year old so what can I expect?! The hubs is AMAZING and I could not do all this without him, when he hears my groans of pain he tells me to relax and helps out in every way possible! Even down to transferring laundry from washer to dryer he offers to do it so I don't have to bend down. He's pretty much a stud and I am so lucky to have him by my side and as the father of my children! (And BTW, children? As in plural, 2 kids, so crazy...) So, my complaints are exhaustion and back pain, other than that life is good.</div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div>Food and cravings: I love food and am not too picky these days. Just don't get in my way when I'm hungry, or you might lose a finger... it's true, my hubs got his hand out of the way just in time a few times or he would be down to 8 or 9 digits.... true story. :)</div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div>Fun stuff: Feeling the baby rolling and moving all the time. He is so crazy and moves a lot, which I love!! When he cooperates other people are able to feel him too, but of course as soon as someone places there hand on my belly he decides it's time for a snooze. Thebest thing was when Hannah saw my belly move all crazy for the first time, her face lit up and she thought it was the coolest thing ever. She always talks to her brother and is so excited to meet him. And I am loving seeing the relationship form between the siblings already, so sweet.</div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2081263723958306285.post-68398612218972696692011-09-11T19:05:00.000-07:002011-09-11T19:43:18.244-07:00A Bit of Randomness...* My sweet 4 year old says to me yesterday as I heave myself off the couch: "Mommy, you're getting fat, but it's just because of the baby", WOW thank you sweetheart, I really appreciate that! Immediately there after I go on to explain why we NEVER say people are getting fat, especially to your mommy.... who does this girl think she is? (Although she is sort of right...)<br /><br />* Why is planning a 5 year old's party so stressful and EXPENSIVE??!! Good lord she's turning 5, why are we contemplating spending upwards of $400 on a party plus a dinner the night before for family?? Ok, change of plans, scale down a little, only invite her friends and grandparents, go to a place that's not quite as expensive and she'll still have a BLAST! And, no dinner the night before for family... there comes a time when extended family just doesn't need to be invited and it's just about Hannah and her friends... right? Right?<br /><br />*Speaking of her birthday we already got her gift and it's out in the backyard already being enjoyed- the trampoline is back, my friends, and Hannah couldn't be more excited! We got HOA approval before buying it this time so they aren't going to make us get rid of it! We bought it for her a month early becuase of previous bullet point of her party costing a small fortune... no it's not the $60,000 party like on RHOBH but still over $400 for party is still a lot in my book!<br /><br />* I have a problem- all I want to do is shop, seriously I want to buy something all. of. the. time! I want to shop for Hannah. Shop for the baby. Shop for clothes, even though I'm only going to be this size for another 4 months...<br /><br />*Speaking of, in just over 4 months we will have a brand spanking new bambino to bring home! Ahhhh I'm so excited to hold and kiss this little dude that has been a-wigglin' and a-groovin' inside my tummy!<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QfPrp08uLFE/Tm1pN0KmZyI/AAAAAAAAAwY/Phf4X7uc0Z0/s1600/21%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 211px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651288793482159906" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QfPrp08uLFE/Tm1pN0KmZyI/AAAAAAAAAwY/Phf4X7uc0Z0/s320/21%2Bweeks%25281%2529.JPG" /></a> 21 weeks and there is no hiding it now (not that I was hiding it) but I'm COMPLETELY showing now and I LOVE it! And getting fat?? Yup, pretty much true, total weight gain so far? 15 lbs!! Yikes!!! And I still have about 19 weeks to go...<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7BEz4ivQfYs/Tm1pNQxzFPI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/akC_oRscHCc/s1600/21%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 194px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651288783982892274" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7BEz4ivQfYs/Tm1pNQxzFPI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/akC_oRscHCc/s320/21%2Bweeks%25282%2529.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div>*Why did I just start crying out of no where today?? Literally tears streaming down my face for no reason whats-o-ever! Yes, I must be pregnant. The first part of my pregnancy I was not very emotional but these last 2 weeks, I'll cry at ANYTHING!</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>* I just decided today that Hannah and I are going to make the long drive to Idaho with my parents to visit my Grandma for her 80th birthday. We haven't seen her for 4 years, so Hannah was only 1 year old the last time she saw her. Plus, my parents aren't going to tell her that Hannah and I are coming so it's going to be a great surprise... this is not going to go well for my whole emotional thing I got goin on these days! <br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div>Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16193131122343135201noreply@blogger.com1
